### **Data Residency**

| ##### **Question** | ##### **Answer** |
| --- | --- |
| What does Data Residency mean? | Organizations that ensure their user-generated information is stored in a trustworthy zone are granted greater control over their data through data residency. Organizations operating in regulated sectors such as finance, government, or healthcare could require data residency to function inside a cloud environment.
You have control over the hosting location of your [in-scope product data](https://support.atlassian.com/security-and-access-policies/docs/understand-data-residency/#In-scope-product-data) for Confluence, Jira Software, Jira Work Management, Jira Service Management, and Jira Product Discovery when you have data residency. It gives you the option of having it held in place in a specific geographic area, like the US or Europe, or distributed globally. |
| What plan types support data residency? | Data residency is available for Enterprise, Standard, and Premium cloud plans. |
| How can I check the region where my data is located? | The storage for Mindpro Sync is set automatically, based on your current location (read Atlassian’s [Understand data residency](https://support.atlassian.com/security-and-access-policies/docs/understand-data-residency/) for more information). You can check your location by following these steps:
1. Visit the [admin.atlassian.com](http://admin.atlassian.com/) page. If you have many organizations, choose one.
2. Choose "Data residency" under "Security".
![Mindpro-1713968670096-1x.png](media://5fbe2143-28ce-41aa-9cb3-2362bb812044)
The app also shows the information on the top of the "Configuration->Connections page":
![Mindpro-1713906168018-1x.png](media://3c7ed20d-a9bf-4e1b-8349-6282e49683e3) |
| for which regions does the app support data residency? | Currently, the app provides data residency for the following locations:
- Global - All Atlassian cloud across AWS regions
- Australia - Consists of Australia (Sydney) region
- Canada - Consists of Canada (Central) region
- EU - Consists of Europe (Frankfurt) and Europe (Dublin) regions
- Germany - Consists of Europe (Frankfurt) region
- India - Consists of Asia Pacific (Mumbai) regions
- Japan - Consists of Asia Pacific (Tokyo) region
- Singapore - Consists of Asia Pacific (Singapore) region
- South Korea - Consists of Asia Pacific (Seoul) region
- Switzerland - Consists of Europe (Zurich) region
- United Kingdom - Consists of Europe (London) region
- USA - Consists of US East (North Virginia) and US West (North California) regions
To learn more, please see these additional resources:
- [App - Privacy & Security tab in the Marketplace](https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1231327/lineup-queues-service-management-hub-jira-jsm?hosting=cloud&tab=privacy-and-security)

- [Atlassian - Moving your Marketplace apps data to another location](https://support.atlassian.com/security-and-access-policies/docs/moving-your-marketplace-apps-data-to-another-location/) |
| What app data is stored in these regions? | For a summary of the in-scope data kept in a designated area, please refer to our [App - Data Security and Privacy](https://helpcenter.mindproapps.com/space/sync/1948024854/App+-+Data+Security+%26+Privacy) page |
| What happens when Mindpro Sync is installed in Jira? | The application will be associated with the designated Jira region upon installation (if Mindpro Sync is enabled). |
| Can I move the app data residency to another region? | Usually, the app's data is stored in the same region of your Atlassian instance. However, it is possible to move the app data to a different location, according to the available regions. Read [this article](https://support.atlassian.com/security-and-access-policies/docs/moving-your-marketplace-apps-data-to-another-location/) to know more about this. |
| How can I move the app data? | First, make sure Jira is defined in the appropriate area. Then, [request a data residency shift](https://support.atlassian.com/security-and-access-policies/docs/move-data-to-another-location/#Request-a-data-residency-move) by following Atlassian's specified procedures.
After that, relocate the app's data to the area you've designated. For further information, click [this link](https://support.atlassian.com/security-and-access-policies/docs/moving-your-marketplace-apps-data-to-another-location/).
- Please be aware that your synchronizations will halt while the app migrates. Please advise your partners not to initiate the sync in order to avoid any issue duplication.
The data is then moved after this. Please be aware that you cannot select which Marketplace apps are relocated; only those that support the designated data residency area can be migrated together. |
| If Jira is pinned to an area that Mindpro Sync doesn't allow, is it possible for me to transfer the app's data? | The app data cannot be moved if Mindpro Sync does not support the Jira data residency zone that has been set. |
| If my Jira is pinned to a location that Mindpro Sync does not allow, where is my app's data stored? | The region in which your Jira instance is operating determines the response. For example, if a Jira instance has data residency pinned to a location that we do not support, it will always fall back to the US for Mindpro Sync, which is the "global" region.
Jira does, however, also support the idea of launching an instance in a particular location without having data residency tied to it (you cannot select this region). If this applies to your instance, Jira will select the closest supported region when you install the app.
For additional technical details on these situations, please see Atlassian’s own [developer documentation](https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/jira/platform/data-residency/). |
| If I change Jira's region, what happens to the app? | The app data will stay in the region where the Jira instance was originally used, even if you change the location for your Jira instance. The app data migration must be started in order for it to be transferred between regions. |
| What should I do if I installed or utilized Mindpro Sync prior to the support for Data Residency (02 May, 2024)? | As of right now, all of your app's data is automatically stored in the US, so you don't need to do anything. See the above “How can I move the app data?” topic if you want to move your data over. |
